In October 2011, at The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Perth, Australia, The Heads of Government adopted, without reservation, the following statement:

"Heads of Government should welcome the creation of  The Commonwealth Youth Orchestra"


Aims

  • To give students of the Commonwealth (aged 18 – 25) the opportunity to perform concerts throughout all the 54 countries of the Commonwealth.
  • To give composers of the Commonwealth international opportunities to have their music performed.
  • To give conductors of the Commonwealth international opportunities to conduct a world-class orchestra.
  • To give young soloists of the Commonwealth international opportunities to perform with a world-class orchestra

Eligibility

Nationals of any of the 54 countries of the Commonwealth

The next audtions for The Commonwealth Youth Orchestra & Choir and also for The Commonwealth Orchestra  will be held in London on 16 January 2013 and in Cambridge on 11 & 25 January and 1 February 2013.

To apply to audition for The Commonwealth Youth Orchestra & Choir or The Commonwealth Orchestra, applicants are invited to email their name, nationality, full contact details, instrument and the full contact details of two referees on the contact form on this website. 

There is no application or audtion fee.

Members of The Commonwealth Youth Orchestra & Choir will have all their expenses, in respect of their particpation in The Commonwealth Youth Orchestra & Choir performances, re-imbursed.

Members of The Commonwealth Orchestra will be paid professional fees in respect of their participation in The Commonwealth Orchestra performances.
